Two faculty members of the KNUST School of Nursing and Midwifery have been honoured at the 2026 Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards for their contributions to nursing and midwifery education and research in Ghana.

Dr Abigail Kusi-Amponsah Diji and Dr William Wilberforce Amoah received awards in the Education and Research Category at a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Health at the Capital View Hotel in Koforidua on September 18, 2026.

The category recognises professionals whose work advances knowledge, contributes to the training of nurses and midwives and strengthens evidence-based healthcare practice.

Dr Diji, a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Public Health Nursing, was recognised for her work in nursing education, student mentorship and research.

Her research interests include nursing education, maternal and child health, public health, quality improvement and pain management, with her work linking academic research and training to healthcare practice.

Dr Amoah, a Lecturer in the Department of Emergency and Critical Care Nursing, was recognised for his contributions to nursing education, clinical coordination, research supervision and academic administration.

His research covers chronic kidney disease, health-related quality of life, self-management, nursing practice, triage, primary healthcare and nursing education.

His scholarly work also focuses on translating research evidence into practical improvements in nursing care and healthcare delivery.

The recognition of the two academics highlights the role of university educators in strengthening Ghana's health workforce through teaching, research, mentorship and professional service.

The KNUST School of Nursing and Midwifery provides undergraduate and postgraduate education and professional training while undertaking research aimed at addressing emerging healthcare challenges.
